The Civil Rights Movement on Long Island In-Person

Join Christopher Verga as he examines Long Island as a battleground for the Civil Rights Movement. Since the early colonization of the English settlers in the 17th century, the shadow of slavery has bequeathed a racial caste system that has directly or indirectly been enforced. Relics of this caste system can be seen through time with the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan and refusing homes to Black people in developments such as Levittown. Find out how local groups fought to break racial barriers.
